This hatchling appears to be... dead?

Perhaps not. It seems to be active during the night.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

The reasoning behind this hatchling's name is actually quite hilarious. As soon as she matured enough that she didn't look like a corpse anymore, the young Vampire was eager to explore outside of the cave, and soon ran into two other hatchlings who were passing through the territory. Upon seeing her white and red skin and feeling the cold temperature coming off of her, they were quick to assume that she was a Christmas dragon and name her accordingly, much to her obvious chagrin. One would have thought that the fangs and threatening demeanor would have been enough to clue them in, but it evidently wasn't enough.

She was quick to snappishly tell them in no uncertain terms that she was a vampire dragon, along with several other demeaning terms thrown in for good measure. Unfortunately, one of the hatchlings was a magi, and his mother was quick to overhear the commotion. Annoyed, she froze the hatchling and only gave dragons further fuel to tease Elf, much to her annoyance.
