Albino Dragons are so named because their translucent, scale-less skin lacks all pigment. Instead, to help protect their bodies from the sun, they are coated in an oily secretion that blocks the sun’s harmful rays. The call of an albino dragon is similar to a barn owl--a shriek instead of a roar.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Toby was always teased when she was younger. Not helping her self-esteem was the fact that she was afraid of any and all sunlight. Throughout Toby's life, her self-esteem has become less and less. When she was old enough, she started to move around from cave to cave. She didn't trust anyone as time went on and only the gentlest dragons could hope to become her friends, if only for short times. Toby got her title, the Lonely, due to her habit of being alone.
