Originating from a single species that thrived in ancient times, Xenowyrms have become an incredibly diverse breed whose appearances vary depending on their habitats. Each Xenowyrm subspecies is heavily reliant on the power of different types of mana, making them powerful magic users. Umbras are a solitary and generally unwelcoming subspecies found in the deepest and darkest recesses of the jungle. This highly intelligent and cunning wyrm has little fondness for intruders and those seeking them either for their hoarded wisdom or gleaming, crystalline scales. They are content to leave travelers alone, but are not above bringing a swift and harsh end to those that disturb their peace.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Guilbrand wasn't taught by his parents to work or have hobbies. He wasn't okay with just existing in his forest, so he decided to become an interior decorator. His tastes are purple, bioluminescent, metallic, and waxy. Fairly recently, he started learning about the interiors of the homes of other species, human tastes being the most varied. He's afraid that the soft creatures will die of fright seeing him, so he uses a combination of illusions and a shapeshifting spell to be a smaller-looking, less spiky dragon. No matter what appearance he has, he has a roof made of spruce shingles on his head. Due to a mishap with timing of the incantation, the roof is stuck to his noggin and shows no sign of deterioration. Guilbrand has to be cautious with his magical disguises so no one figures out he isn't what he seems. Some humans have been wondering to themselves why the dragon apprentice doing building interiors seems to have the same hat as a dark wyrm sighted in a forest down the road.
