Holiday dragons are a very mysterious breed. They are only seen during winter, and even then it is hard to catch a glimpse of one. They are responsible for the general cheer that spreads during the holidays. In essence, they are the “Spirits of Winter.”

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Princess Eve is one of the continent's Old Ones, dragons whose appearances and behaviors seem tied to certain times of the year, when their magic grows strongest and their blood runs truest. She knows that she's manifested here for centuries, knows that her life has been long...but she has oddly few memories of that life.

She remembers the land, remembers flashes of her life sometimes more than others. She remembers running across a snowy plain with a red-striped mate; she remembers a tiny hand touching the center of her forehead, calling her princess; she remembers pain, teeth, flashes of fighting and war. But there is no cohesive narrative to her past life, no string to hold together these beads of scents, voices, scenes.

Princess Eve has dwelt with the dragons of the Val'Direan Mountain City, one of three Cities of Snow and Cloud allied together across the continent. The dragons of the City look after her and help her feel grounded, even when she isn't always certain who she is.
